CRITIC REVIEWS

RATED 3 STARS

While reviewers agree that the computer-animated kids movie Ice Age may be no match for the films being produced by Pixar, most apparently also agree with Joe Morgenstern, who writes in today's Wall Street Journal: It's an impressive piece of work for a new feature animation group [Blue Sky], and a harbinger of cool cartoons to come. Ann Hornaday, writing in The Washington Post, comments: The question isn't whether you're going to go to Ice Age If you're the parent of anyone under 10, you are going to Ice Age The question, as it always is with kids' movies, is whether you should take a good novel and an Itty-Bitty Book Light. The answer is no. And Roger Ebert observes in the Chicago Sun-Times that the movie is a pleasure to look at and scarcely less fun as a story. I came to scoff and stayed to smile. But Good Morning America critic Joel Siegel remarked that he took his four-year-old son with him for the screening of the film. Watching Ice Age, we made one trip for popcorn. One trip for soda. One trip about 45 minutes after the soda. And three other times he turned to ask me: is it over yet? Siegel, obviously proud of his critic-in-the-making, added: The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
