Synopsis:

From the studio that brought you SWEET HOME ALABAMA comes the extraordinary romantic comedy starring Academy Award (R) nominee Diane Lane (2002 Best Actress, UNFAITHFUL). Based on the #1 New York Times best-selling book, UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN follows San Francisco writer Frances Mayes (Lane) to Italy as a good friend offers her a special gift -- 10 days in Tuscany. Once there, she is captivated by its beauty and warmth, and impulsively buys an aging, but very charming, villa. Fully embracing new friends and local color, she finds herself immersed in a life-changing adventure filled with enough unexpected surprises, laughter, friendship, and romance to restore her new home -- and her belief in second chances.

CRITIC REVIEWS
Lew Irwin
RATED 2 STARS

Under the Tuscan Sun may credit Kate Walsh and Diane Lane as the stars, but most critics seem to agree that the real star may be the scenery. In fact, Joel Siegel remarked on Good Morning America: You know the three most important things about buying real estate? Location, location, location. If that were true for films, Under the Tuscan Sun would win the Oscar. Tuscany is so beautiful, this is the kind of movie you want to shout at the actors, 'Get out of the way, I can't see the scenery.' Aside from the lush backdrops, the film is getting pretty gloomy reviews from most critics. Joe Morgenstern in the Wall Street Journal remarks that Beautiful as Tuscany may be, and eager as we may be for romance in exotic places, Under the Tuscan Sun is beclouded by clumsy direction and a cobwebby script that could have been written 40 years ago. Liam Lacey in the Toronto Globe and Mail writes similarly: While both the scenery and star Diane Lane are highly watchable, the movie is pure froth, a plate-sized helping of zabaglione.

Nice movie.Definitely a woman's movie. If I were of the female persuasion, I would have rated it 4 stars. With that said, Diane Lane is a pleasure to watch and does a great job acting in this film.
