The Last Mimzy

"The Last Mimzy" is a little bit of "Space Odyssey" (same relationship to knowledge but with a sophisticated technological twist) and "E.T." (same theme of returning home but with a salvific purpose). The movie's a little long at times, but otherwise interesting. I would've liked to have seen more of the technology because that was the more interesting part of the story. Also, there are some parts that are too adult for younger children (like seeing the teacher in his underwear followed by the promise of sex with his fiancee). I also had issues with the siblings' mother that made me completely unsympathetic toward her; at least the dad has a little more sense when he's confronted with his daughter's abilities. As an adult it is great to enjoy a movie with your kids and not be bored or embarrassed.

I also had my doubts but when I saw it, it was exhilarating. The story was so great and the cast was so good. I want my family to see it even though we have no young kids. It grabs your heart!

I had my doubts about watching kid movies like this, even after repeated recommendations by my baby sister. But after watching it, I thought this was better than expected. Not only a great family movie to watch together with the kids, but a great Sci-Fi as well. The Director really hit alot of the human scenses, of what makes a movie great. This movie, I highly recommend...without any reservations.
