Synopsis:
Behind ever great man there lies a teacher, and this was certainly true of Bruce Lee, who claimed as his mentor a martial arts expert named Ip Man (1893-1972). A genius of Wushu (or the Chinese martial arts school), Ip Man grew up in a China nearly ripped to pieces by racial hatred, nationalistic strife and warfare. He rose like a phoenix above these ashes, however, courtesy of his participation in matches against various Wushu masters and kung-fun warriors - ultimately training martial arts icons such as Lee. This biopic from director Wilson Yip dramatizes Ip's life story.

A great martial arts movie, and just a plain great action & revenge movie.
Excellent acting, beautiful sets, and some of the most awesome fight scenes I've ever seen. Actual blood and broken bones (warning - not for kids) , plus wicked acrobatics ! It's cool to see some of the pre-cursors to Bruce Lees style (Wing Chung, stop-kicks, etc). BTW - the guy in the previous review, you mean Atomic Bombs, not nuclear bombs. Good on ya for pointing that bit out though. Anyways - this movie surprised me, and I liked it so much I may watch it again.

My wife and I enjoyed this movie. It will keep you entertained from start to finish. Worth the money. This movie is based on a true story and that IP Man was connected to Bruce Lee... One very interesting note. The movie states that the Japanese, after taking over China, gave up "unconditionally" in 1945 to the Chinese. For your information, the Japanese gave up because of America. The "Potsdam Declaration" of 1945 submitted to the Japanese by the United States, U.K and China demanded the Japanese surrender. President Harry S. Truman, United Kingdom Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and President of the Republic of China Chiang Kai-Shek issued the "Potsdam Declaration". The refusal of the Japanese to surrender resulted in two nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6th and 9th of 1945. Thus, Americans once again helped a Nation that could NOT help themselves. I think China owes us. What do you say? Watch the move and judge for yourself.
