Synopsis:
As night falls, Jack and Mason search the empty land in Saugus, but find nothing but some old foundations. Mason gets a call saying Alexis is coming out of surgery, so he decides to leave, but Jack says he'll stay a while. At the Bauer house, Tony helps Teri and Parslow into a car, and Teri tells Tony that Kim is dead. Tony, however, assures Teri that he heard from Kim after the crash. Tony calls Nina to say he's got Teri and Parslow, and she tells Tony to take them to a CTU clinic. At a police station, Rick tells Kim to go ahead and tell the whole story about her kidnapping, saying he's ready to face up to his part in the events. At the hotel, Sherry scolds Palmer for destroying everything they've worked for by going public, and says she hopes he's happy to see that it's all over. He asks if she means the campaign or their relationship, but she doesn't answer. In the Saugus field, Jack finally finds a security door leading to an underground structure. The area is flooded by lights, the door opens, and Jack is hit with a taser shock. As Jack is dragged inside, Andre Drazen and another man, Miguel, observe. Inside the bunker, a man named DeSalvo greets Jack, who correctly guesses that the hidden facility is a secret Class Three government detention facility. Jack tells DeSalvo about the plot against him and Palmer and says it must be tied to something happening at this facility. DeSalvo admits a new prisoner is scheduled to arrive that night, but says he doesn't know who it is. Jack asks DeSalvo to call in back-up troops, then advises him to arm the current staff, to make the facility seem better defended than it really is.Outside in the trench, another soldier, Harris, tells Andre they still haven't heard from Alexis, who was supposed to confirm the power cutoff at 7:30, but Andre assures him all will go as planned. A couple of minutes later another chopper arrives, and Jack, DeSalvo, and a variety of armed men rise from the hidden entrance to meet it. Watching through binoculars, Harris says there are more men than Andre predicted, but Andre still assures him the power will go off and all will go as scheduled. A few seconds later, Jack and DeSalvo lead a hooded prisoner from the chopper into the prison facility, but lights don't go off. Andre orders Harris and his men to advance anyway, but Harris refuses, and Andre finally gives the order to stand down while Jack and DeSalvo lead the prisoner into the bunker and shut the door. Inside, Jack asks DeSalvo if he can see the prisoner, but DeSalvo reiterates his strict orders not to reveal the man's identity.Back at the hotel, Palmer and Novick watch news coverage of the press conference, and are surprised when polls show an increase in support for Palmer. Just then, Palmer gets a call from Jack, who tells Palmer where he is and asks him to pull some strings to help him learn the identity of the secret prisoner. Back in the trench outside the prison, Andre and Harris plot a new way to blow up a local power generator and break into the facility. Harris warns their odds of success are greatly reduced now, but Andre responds to Harris' reluctance by shooting him. Back inside, Jack sneaks into an observation room and sees the back of the prisoner's head on a monitor. DeSalvo tries to stop Jack, but then the prisoner turns around... and Jack realizes it's Victor Drazen, whom he supposedly killed two years earlier in Serbia. Jack tells DeSalvo he was sent by a congressional subcommittee on a clandestine mission to eliminate Drazen, who was responsible for the horrendous “ethnic cleansing” crimes in Serbia. Jack admits Drazen's wife and daughter were killed in the explosion that supposedly killed Drazen, and explains that Drazen and his sons are now apparently seeking revenge. Jack insists that DeSalvo move Victor Drazen to another facility immediately, and DeSalvo goes to make a phone call.Back at the police station, Kim tries to convince Sam that she's really the victim of a kidnapping, which is tied up with the plot to kill Palmer, but Sam doesn't believe her, even when she provides the CTU phone number and asks him to call to verify her story. Meanwhile, as Tony drives Teri and Parslow to the CTU, he realizes there's a personal relationship between them. At the same time, Andre plots with Miguel to blow up the nearby power station and free Victor. Mason returns to the CTU, and tells Nina that he hopes to force Alexis, now recovering from surgery, to talk by withholding his morphine. At the hotel, Palmer tells Sherry that he appreciates her ambition but says he's not sure if he can ever trust her again. She insists he'd never leave her, and vows to be at his side when he's sworn in as president. One of Palmer's aides, Patty, overhears this conversation, and after Sherry leaves, approaches Palmer flirtatiously. Back at the prison, Jack finally gets permission to interrogate Victor, and asks him how he survived the explosion in Serbia. Victor doesn't answer, and Jack apologizes for the deaths of Victor's wife and daughter, but notes that Victor was also killing innocent civilians, which Victor denies. Jack begs Victor to leave his family alone, but Victor says he'd do so only if Jack could bring his wife and daughter back to life, which is impossible. Jack asks Victor to call off his sons' rescue attempt, but Victor refuses. Just then, DeSalvo finally gets permission to move Victor, and DeSalvo's men start to lead Victor out. Meanwhile, Kim is put into a holding cell at the police station while Teri and Parslow arrive at a CTU clinic. Finally, as Jack and DeSalvo lead Victor out of the prison facility, the lights go out... and Victor says his sons have arrived.
