CRITIC REVIEWS
LEWE IRWIN
RATED 2 STARS

Several critics are making the precise point about Death Race that Elizabeth Weitzman makes in the New York Daily News, to wit: "It knows what it is and doesn''t apologize for it. What it is, incidentally, is junk." That''s OK by Kyle Smith of the New York Post, who writes: "Nice to know that there is still somewhere to turn for gratuitous violence, fuel-inefficient action and rude one-liners." And Rafer Guzmá,n in Newsday remarks "Death Race may be a loud, lowbrow piece of pulp, but it''s also crackling entertainment -- the very definition of a cheap thrill." But David Hiltbrand in the Philadelphia Inquirer asks: "What do you get when you supercharge Roger Corman''s 1975 B-movie Death Race 2000? A fried cheeseball." Michael Sragow in the Baltimore Sun dismisses the movie simply as "garbage." Critics must love movies like this. It gives them the opportunity to invent new zingers to let fly. Take Roger Ebert''s opening comments in the Chicago Sun-Times: "It is an assault on all the senses, including common. Walking out, I had the impression I had just seen the video game and was still waiting for the movie." And Peter Hartlaub in the San Francisco Chronicle compares the movie to the lunch offerings in a school cafeteria: "Individual ingredients are recognizable, but the finished product is shapeless glop. While it might be filling, no one with any taste could possibly call it good."

I have seen mostly all of his movies. Each one seems to just get even more rediculous than the last, finally ending with In the name of the King.I figured nothing could get worse than that, Then I ran acrosst his.Low rate crap movie twisted metal style? I had to rent it.I gave it 4 stars.Actors fit their rolls, nothing was really over done too much, they kept it somewhat plausible. It did not get boring, did not drag out and never once did I say "oh wth, give me a BREAK".Without a doubt one of his better movies.
