Synopsis:
A young singer turns his back on God and his father's church when tragedy strikes. He returns years later to find the once-powerful congregation in disarray. With his childhood nemesis creating a "new vision" for the church, he is forced to deal with family, career and relationship issues that send him on a collision course with redemption or destruction. Set in the world of the African-American church and gospel music from director Rob Hardy (Trois, Trois 2: Pandora's Box), THE GOSPEL features an all-star cast including Boris Kodjoe (Love and Basketball), Omar Gooding (Baby Boy), Nona Gaye (The Matrix Reloaded), Clifton Powell (Ray), Tamyra Gray (TV's "American Idol" star) and Keshia Knight Pulliam (TV's "The Cosby Show") and the hottest names in gospel with GRAMMY Award® winners Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, and Hezekiah Walker among many more!

CRITIC REVIEWS
Lew Erwin
RATED 3 STARS

Rob Hardy's The Gospel is attracting as much hell fire and damnation as it is hallelujahs. Ty Burr in the Boston Globe describes it as a heartfelt but muddled melodrama about an R&B singer's crisis of faith and the church politics that ensnare him when he goes home to visit his dying father. Bob Townsend in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution dismisses it as a preachy soap opera about Saturday night and Sunday morning. On the other hand, Kevin Thomas in the Los Angeles Times calls it rousing, affirmative entertainment. Steve Persall in the St. Petersburg Times writes that the movie offers soap opera spirituality that won't have any problem pleasing the faithful. And Michael Wilmington in the Chicago Tribune concludes that The Gospel may not surprise us, but it's a likable movie done with verve and style.
