Synopsis:
"Good Night, And, Good Luck." takes place during the early days of broadcast journalism in 1950's America. It chronicles the real-life conflict between television newsman Edward R. Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee. With a desire to report the facts and enlighten the public, Murrow, and his dedicated staff - headed by his producer Fred Friendly and Joe Wershba in the CBS newsroom - defy corporate and sponsorship pressures to examine the lies and scaremongering tactics perpetrated by McCarthy during his communist 'witch-hunts'. A very public feud develops when the Senator responds by accusing the anchor of being a communist. In this climate of fear and reprisal, the CBS crew carries on and their tenacity will prove historic and monumental.

CRITIC REVIEWS
Lew Irwin

Another film eliciting much passion this weekend is the polar opposite of Wallace & Gromit. Good Night, and Good Luck, co-starring, co-written and co-directed by George Clooney, concerns CBS newsman Ed Murrow's 1954 clash with Communist-hunter Sen. Joseph McCarthy. Ty Burr in the Boston Globe calls the film, a hermetically sealed period piece so intensely relevant to our current state of affairs that it takes your breath away ... a call to civic responsibility and renewed purpose in broadcast journalism that demands to be seen and discussed by audiences of all ages and political stripes. Jack Mathews in the New York Daily News calls it the biggest little movie of the year -- and one of the best ever about the news media. On the other hand, Stephen Hunter in the Washington Post accuses Clooney of painting a totally black-and-white scenario -- leaving out nuance, context, empathy, anything that suggests the larger truth that nothing is as simple as it seems. The film, therefore, is like a child's view of these events, untroubled by complexity, hungry for myth and simplicity.

At first, this movie seems rather slow compared to other modern movies. But after you get through its first part, "Good Night and Good Luck" really keeps your attention.

A very well acted and entertaining movie not be missed by those who prefer an experience that engages their thought process. Yes, the story has been told before, but rarely with such articulation.

Clooney's direction is just OK, although i do admire him generally. Some talented behind the scenes work kept the movie together. Story line just really lacked oomf, this is a much covered subject matter. Somewhat in between docudrama and feature:- always a problem.Walk don't run to rent it...
