CRITIC REVIEWS
Lew Irwin

New York Post
critic Lou Lumenick uses the Australian expression Go walkabout, mate, to underscore his apparent sentiment that the Australian kids movie Kangaroo Jack may appeal only to pouch potatoes. He does acknowledge that he likes the computer-generated and anamatronic kangaroos used in the movie. So do several other critics, but they use more North American terms to revile the producers. For example, Chris Kaltenback in the Baltimore Sun remarks that the film instantly establishes itself as the film to beat when it comes to gawdawful moviemaking for 2003. Liam Lacey comments in the Toronto Globe and Mail: In the life-is-too-short category, file Kangaroo Jack as a sub-Farrelly Brothers, dumb-plus-dumber buddy picture. Eleanor Ringel Gillespie writes in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: This is the sort of movie that makes you wonder if the right-wing zealots who blame Hollywood for everything might have a point. Still, the movie does receive a good deal of applause -- from the kids who accompanied some of the critics to the screenings. Karen Heller writes in the Philadelphia Inquirer that her 9- and 6-year-olds were delighted and only wished for more Jack and less kissing.
