One of the better movies ever made in America. There probably will not be another one liek it for a very long time. However, the sad part about this movie is that the girl's father predicted that the racism that will disturb such mix marriages will not be eliminated for another 50 or 100 years. This was back in 1968 when the movie was made. In 2006 the racism, at least from the white male population is still as bad as in 1968.The movie was a bit fluffy. Meaning they really didnt go into the harsh reality of this relationship. The fact is that on some isolated road such a couple would most likely be shot by a white supremists group or even by a white law enforement officer. The wife would probably be brutally raped before being murdered and no one would ever know about it. Covered up like. But perhaps in 100 years from now such a realistic movies will be made. And lets face it, girls as Joey or white dadslike tracy is extrememly rare, making this movie somewhat of a fantasy movie.I'll give it a 5 despite all these short comings because it was a tremendous effort to have such a movie pass the american censoriship.
