Synopsis:
Mark Wahlberg stars as a man who takes his family on the run when a natural disaster threatens to end civilization. For years, the earth has been the victim of mankind’s “progress,” and the pollution has finally built to a point that causes a global backlash. An invisible neurotoxin is released into the air making the people in Philadelphia go crazy and kill themselves. The Happening is a paranoid thrill ride through this large-scale, cataclysmic environmental crisis that turns into a struggle by mankind to overcome nature.

M. Night Shyamalan, the writer-director famous for ending his films with surprising twists has returned to the screen with The Happening. But those expecting to see his signature ending will likely be disappointed. As Elizabeth Weitzman writes in the New York Daily News. "The big twist is that ... there's no twist at all. None. Zip. Nada." Several critics express disappointment that Shyamalan, after a series of blunders, has not made the kind of comeback they were hoping for. Claudia Puig in USA Today concludes her review by remarking, "Shyamalan's work has been deteriorating since the stir he caused in 1999 with The Sixth Sense. ... His last couple of movies --The Village and Lady in the Water -- have been particular disappointments, and The Happening continues the trend." Kyle Smith in the New York Post gives mostly two-word reviews for all of Shyamalan's movies since The Sixth Sense: "Stupid ending, stupid ending, stupid ending and, in a change of pace with his last film, Lady in the Water, stupid all the way through." Carina Chocano in the Los Angeles Times says that not all the blame should be laid at Shyamalan's feet. Costar Mark Washlberg, she writes, gives "one of the worst performances of his career." But Manohla Dargis in the New York Times comments that the critics' knives were sharpened for Shyamalan even before the movie was screened for them. As for herself, she considers the film, "a divertingly goofy thriller with an animistic bent, moments of shivery and twitchy suspense and a solid lead performance from Mark Wahlberg." Likewise Glenn Whipp concludes in the Los Angeles Daily News that The Happening is "creepy, silly fun. And if it came from anyone else, it would be recognized as such. One thing is certain: The man hasn't lost his ability to entertain."

It was kind of hooky.Mark Walburg comes off as a total moron in this movie.Not one of his better movies... It was alright but could have been done much better!

I am a huge Shymalan fan, but this is so ridiculously boring,Real snooze-fest.

blind, (appropriate name, that)...first, you should stop complaining about those "save the environment people", because they can't...the earth will go on, although you won't...so there is no real loss to fear...second, shyamalan hasn't made a decent movie since sixth sense, so you ought to be prepared for trailer doctoring by now...i just got sucked into apaloosa by the cast names alone (another death trap), so i can feel your pain.

The promo's for the movie set a pretty eerie and disturbing plotline/environment.Certainly large groups of people randomly commiting suicide is fodder for a pscyological thriller.Somehow they managed to mess that up.It was something I would expect to see on the Sci Fi channel during Eco friendly Green Week.I am sick of these "save the environment" people, and them shoving it down our throat.More than that I am tired of people taking parts of a movie, then cutting the scenes and showing just a small clip to make it dramatic for comercials.This movie was boring, not gory, not scary, not thought envoking.Everything was obvious.They used a lot of time to accomplish nothing.

What you see in the advertisement's on television is the height of "The Happening" so don't expect this movie to get any more happening."The Happening" makes for a good 90 minute movie with minimal story line but nothing more.If you want to see the biggest blue iris's you have ever seen in the eyes of a beautiful girl that's one treat.I was attracted by the promo and the title. I was greatly disappointed.

Shyamalan did a great job with "The Village" but, really missed the mark on this movie.It wasn't scary at all.The plot was a little predictable.I certainly wasn't surprised by the ending.The main female actress really couldn't act and I think she made the movie a lot worse then it had to be.Definitely, wouldn't recommend.
