Synopsis:
It's a love triangle but with a twist. Instead of revolving around three people, this story involves twenty-eight: a man, a womanand a Major League baseball team.High-school teacher Ben Wrightman (JIMMY FALLON) is a good catch. He's charming, funny and great with kids. When he meets Lindsey Meeks (DREW BARRYMORE), an ambitious business consultant whose spirit is as luminous as her beauty, their attraction is immediate. Sure, they have their differences. She's a workaholic; he loves his summers off. He lives and breathes the Red Sox; she doesn't know Carl Yastrzemski from Johnny Damon. But true love overcomes allat least until Red Sox spring training rolls around. As Ben's beloved Bosox launch one of the most incredible seasons in baseball history, Ben and Lindsey must decide if they, as a couple, will strike out or fight to keep love alive through extra innings.FEVER PITCH is based on Nick Hornby's autobiographical book Fever Pitch, which recounted the author's obsession with English football (better known to Americans as soccer). But instead of Americanizing Hornby's work, screenwriters Lowell Ganz & Babaloo Mandel took his premise of an obsessive sports fan, and fashioned a contemporary romantic comedy in the classic tradition.

CRITIC REVIEWS
Lew Irwin
RATED 3 STARS

Roger Ebert is spreading praise fairly evenly all around for the makers of Fever Pitch, writing that the two leads are perfectly cast, that the directors -- the Farrelly brothers -- show that they can be sensitive and warm-hearted, never push too hard, empathize with the characters and that the script by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel based on a book by Nick Hornby reveals truth and close observation. We know these people. We dated these people. We are these people. Manohla Dargis in the New York Times finds fault with a number of elements in the production. Nevertheless, she concludes, I found myself rooting for this movie anyway, partly because Lindsey and Ben make a nice fit, as do the actors playing them, partly because the Farrellys bring so much heart to their movies, and partly because Ms. Barrymore inspires more goodwill than any other young actress I can think of working today in American movies. Indeed, many critics use the adjective adorable to describe her in the film. But several other critics write about the odd casting of Fallon in the lead role of an obsessed Red Sox fan. As his mediocre skit work on Saturday Night Live demonstrated, Fallon has no presence or charm, writes Jami Bernard in the New York Daily News. But Gene Seymour in Newsday writes that Fallon performs the role with perfectly pitched goofball ardor.

This is pretty good romantic comedy/sports movie. Jimmie Fallon is hilarious. Jimmie and Drew really work as an onscreen couple. This movie is a must watch if you are a sports nut of any kind! ;)
