Synopsis:
Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson go for the gold (and the diamonds, emeralds and rubies) as a just-divorced couple who bicker and banter their way through an adventure- and laugh-packed undersea treasure hunt. McConaughey is Finn, in love with his ex (Hudson) and in deep with gangster Bigg Bunny. After eight years of searching, Finn gets a clue to the whereabouts of the Queen’s Dowry, a fabulous fortune that mysteriously disappeared in the Caribbean in 1715. Now all he has to do is get the gold, get the girl and get going before Bigg Bunny gets him. Directed by Andy Tennant (Hitch), Fool’s Gold glitters with danger, action, romance, comedy, great one-liners – and a great time to be had by all!

CRITIC REVIEWS
LEW IRWIN

The biggest attraction of Fool's Gold, A.O. Scott of the New York Times suggests, may be "the tawny limbs and perfect bellybuttons of the stars, Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson." Other than that, Scott indicates, the film exhibits a "frantic creative desperation that tries to pass itself off as giddy comic exuberance." Actually, Scott's is one of the better reviews of the movie. Most of the critics lambaste not only the film's plot but its stars as well. Bob Strauss in the Los Angeles Daily News refers to them as "blond tanning prodigies." Elizabeth Weitzman in the New York Daily News suggests that McConaughey's "heart clearly isn't in acting right now, so when it was time to make Fool's Gold, he asked his abs to do the job for him." Similarly, Wesley Morris in the Boston Globe comments that when his mind wandered during the film, "I thought about admiring the hard work McConaughey did for this picture and how all that work appears to have gone into his abs." Lou Lumenick in the New York Post begins his review by remarking, "The title of the excruciatingly lame and laughless romantic comedy/adventure Fool's Gold surely deserves some kind of an award for truth in advertising." And Carrie Rickey of the Philadelphia Inquirer ends her review by commenting, "I can't think of why anyone would want to endure this soggy mess."

Terrible movie. It starts out interesting, but by the end you ask yourself, why did I watch this? One interesting scene is an underwater fight. Which actually sounds cool in theory, but always ends up disappointing. everything moves so slow underwater its like watching turtles fight. its basically a tragedy, but the problem is that ultimately there's not much too it. it certainly is NOT a comedy btw.

Watching this reminded me of the movie "Cool Running", with the island vibe and the quality filming that was done. Mostly a comedy/adventuretype movie. Sure beats themovie thats out, Indiana Jones and the "watcha-ma-call it" rubber skull.
