Synopsis:
Set in the political snake-pit of Elizabethan England, Anonymous speculates on an issue that has for centuries intrigued academics and brilliant minds ranging from Mark Twain and Charles Dickens to Henry James and Sigmund Freud, namely: who was the author of the plays credited to William Shakespeare? Experts have debated, books have been written, and scholars have devoted their lives to protecting or debunking theories surrounding the authorship of the most renowned works in English literature. Anonymous poses one possible answer, focusing on a time when cloak-and-dagger political intrigue, illicit romances in the Royal Court, and the schemes of greedy nobles hungry for the power of the throne were exposed in the most unlikely of places: the London stage.

it is not mentioned in the synopsis that this mushigaz originated in a fairly antique book coauthored by two gentlemen who maintained in it that all 35 of bill's plays were secretly written and passed along to him by sir francis bacon...mark twain was seduced by the idea and wrote a lengthy essay emphasizing the repeated use of legal language that would have been intimate to bacon, as high chancellor of england, and supposedly obscure to will...shakespeare's plays have been routinely cut to the bone and also mutilated beyond recognition by changingemphases of spoken and body language, as well as physical context, that entirely distorted obvious original meanings...sam sheperd threatened to sue harvard( that is, bob brustein) for so mangling one of his own works...alackaday, such abuse is still perpetuated by this same nonsensical myth of the lurking ghost (ben jonson?)...may be entertaining, but you have a better chance of cornering bigfoot than this posited hidden genius...
