As Jack continues to follow Kevin (previously known as Alan York) Carroll's directions to Gaines' compound, he calls Nina to ask her to forward a satellite image of the area. Nina tells him Green is pressuring her to reveal what he's up to, but promises she'll continue stalling. Meanwhile, at Gaines' compound, Teri and Kim hide Eli's body and start planning their escape. A few minutes later, as Jack pulls up to the compound, Nina sends him the satellite view, and he asks her not to say anything to Green until his family's safe. At the compound gate, Jack puts Kevin in the driver's seat, then hides behind it, holding a gun. Meanwhile, Palmer tells Novick about his fear that Carl is planning to harm Keith's therapist, Ferragamo, but Novick warns Palmer to stay out of it. Finally, one of Gaines' guards, Miller, sees Kevin pull up and admits him, not realizing Jack is in the car. Jack asks Kevin which building Teri and Kim are in, and Kevin points to an old cold storage building. Kevin tries to grab Jack, but Jack knocks him out.Back at the CTU, Green questions Tony about his relationship with Nina, and figures out Tony is jealous of Nina's feelings for Jack. At Gaines' compound, Jack tapes Kevin's hands to the steering wheel, locks him in, then creeps to the cold storage shed... but it's empty. Meanwhile, Gaines dispatches Neil to find out what's taking Eli so long. In a limousine, Palmer calls Dr. Ferragamo, but he thinks Palmer is threatening - not warning - him, and hangs up. Palmer dials back, but gets only a machine, so he insists on going to Ferragamo's office immediately. A few moments later, a man enters Gaines' guesthouse, and Teri tackles him... only to realize it's Jack. As the Bauers embrace, Neil walks in, but Jack shoots him. Just as Jack starts to drag Neil's body in, Rick returns. A moment later, Rick knocks and Jack draws his gun, but Teri and Kim convince him that Rick is on their side.Back at the CTU, Green calls Nina and Tony into her office, says she's sure they know where Jack is, and orders them to separate interrogation rooms, saying the first one to talk gets to keep their job. Green questions Tony first, but he still insists he doesn't know where Jack is, and she gives him 10 more minutes to think about it. Back at the guesthouse, Rick offers to get Dan's van so they can all get away. Just then, Gaines calls Neil's walkie-talkie. Rick answers and says Neil and Eli are outside digging a grave for the women. Although Gaines buys it, Rick says they've only bought about five minutes, and Jack tells him to get the van.Meanwhile, Miller stumbles onto Kevin, still unconscious in his car, and runs for his radio. Rick gets to his van, but as he starts it, Gaines raps on the window and asks where he's going. Just then, Miller radios Gaines, tells him about Kevin, and Gaines orders Rick to come with him. A few minutes later, Green returns to Tony's interrogation room, but as she starts to question him again, Jack calls. He tells Green that he's found the people behind the Palmer hit, and that he hasn't been in touch because the assassins are holding his wife and daughter. Jack insists he's told no one at the CTU, and asks Green to send aerial backup. After the call, Jack asks Teri and Kim if they're ready to go home, and they chat a bit, trying to hide their worry that Rick still hasn't returned with the van.About the same time, Palmer and Novick arrive at Ferragamo's office, just in time to see his body being wheeled out by firemen. Palmer starts to jump out, but Novick holds him back and goes to find out what happened. A moment later, he returns, saying Ferragamo was killed in an explosion. Novick says no one knows what caused it, but Palmer's sure it was murder. Meanwhile, as Rick watches, Gaines and Miller pull Kevin out of the car. He regains consciousness, tells them Bauer is there, and Gaines immediately radios an order to lock down the facility. In the excitement, however, Rick jumps into the van and speeds back to the guesthouse. Jack, Teri, and Kim get in, and drive away just as Gaines' armed guards swarm the building.Back at the CTU, Green lets Nina and Tony go, saying she's heard from Jack and sent several units to help him. After Green leaves, Tony tells Nina he was on the verge of confessing, but Nina says she's grateful he held his silence as long as he did. Back at Gaines' compound, Jack crashes the van through the main gate, dodging bullets from Gaines' guards. As they leave, however, a bullet hits a back tire and the van skids to a stop near some woods. Jack and the others jump out and Jack tells them to run to a nearby water tower, where the CTU can find them. Rick offers to stay with Jack, and together, they exchange gunfire with Gaines' men. Rick is hit in the exchange, so Jack severs the van's fuel line, then ignites the spilling gas, creating a fiery barrier that allows him and Rick to run. A few moments later, in the woods, Rick falls, spent... but Jack helps him up, and they continue to flee
