Synopsis:
After the assassin, Alexis, makes love to Palmer's aide, Elizabeth, she tells him she's traveling to Nevada with Palmer later. She offers to make a hotel reservation there for Alexis, and he plants a tracking device in her purse. At the CTU, Tony stalls Palmer and gets a report from Milo on Alexis' movements since he arrived in the U.S. Meanwhile, as Nina drives Teri and Kim to the safe house, Kim asks Teri about her medical diagnosis, and Teri tells her she had an ovarian cyst, but assures Kim she'll be fine. Back at the CTU, Chappelle tells Palmer he can't talk to Jack until Green finishes interrogating him, but then Chappelle gets a call from the Secretary of Defense, ordering him to let Palmer speak to Jack. When Jack and Palmer are finally alone, Palmer asks Jack why he wants to kill Palmer. Jack is shocked, but then Palmer reveals that it's understandable Jack would be upset with him, since he authorized “Operation Nightfall,” the Balkan mission in which Jack killed Vlade Drazen but lost his own team in the process. Jack, however, insists he blames himself for those deaths, and says he was trying to protect Palmer, not kill him, at the power plant that morning.About the same time, Nina, Teri, and Kim arrive at the safe house, and meet the CTU agents who will guard them. Kim and Teri go into their respective bathrooms to freshen up, and Teri takes her home pregnancy test. When the test turns blue, Teri is shocked, but then realizes she does want another child. Back at the CTU, Palmer tells Jack that he headed the Senate subcommittee that hired a man named Robert Ellis to eliminate Andre Drazen, who committed numerous atrocities as part of the “ethnic cleansing” in the Balkans. Palmer and Jack now realize that someone's after both of them as payback for that operation, and then further realizes that Ellis, wherever he is, is in danger, too. Palmer calls Ellis (who's in a New Orleans bar), on his cell phone, and warns him of the revenge plot. Ellis tells Jack he'll dig up an old file containing the names of Drazen's associates, and asks Jack to start tracing Drazen's money through accounts in Belgium. Back at the safehouse, Kim comes into Teri's bathroom while Teri's in the shower and sees the pregnancy test. Teri admits she's pregnant, and although Kim gets upset at first, she calms down and hugs her mother when Teri admits she's scared.Meanwhile, Sherry returns to Palmer's hotel and tells Elizabeth they're not leaving for Nevada just yet. Elizabeth calls Alexis - who's sitting in a cafe with Drazen - with this news, and after the call, Drazen notes that a dark-haired woman sitting nearby looks like "Martina." Alexis says "our sister" is dead, however, and assures Drazen that Palmer will be dead, too, by midnight. A bit later, at the CTU, Green tells Milo to keep working on the three new assassins and asks Tony to check in with Nina. Chappelle is impressed with Green and promises she'll get to keep the job as CTU head, even if Jack is cleared of any wrongdoing. Meanwhile, Milo joins Jack and Palmer in the conference room, where Ellis says he's sending some information for Milo to print out for Jack and Palmer. As Ellis talks, however, a large man enters the bar, and a waitress points him to Ellis.Back at the CTU, Palmer tells Jack that everyone hated Drazen, so he's surprised someone is seeking revenge for Drazen's death. Palmer tells Jack he's sorry the rest of the team was lost, and Jack notes that he, too, would have died if Richard Walsh hadn't saved him. Jack tells Palmer that Walsh was also killed last night, and they both realize anew just how much danger they're in. At the safehouse, Teri tries to call Jack to tell him she's pregnant, but Tony says Jack's busy and will have to call her back. Nina says she'd like to start debriefing Teri, so Kim excuses herself, picking up Nina's cell phone as she leaves. Then, alone in her room, Kim calls Rick, who's at a beach house. Rick asks Kim not to tell anyone about him, but she says she'll have to, and suggests he turn himself in. He's afraid, and begs her to cover up his involvement.At the CTU, Milo gives Jack and Palmer the information Ellis forwarded, and they're surprised to learn from the file that Drazen's wife and daughter died with Drazen. Immediately, Palmer orders Chappelle to put extra guards on Teri and Kim. Back at the safehouse, Teri tells Nina about Rick, and suggests she get further details from Kim. Teri also asks Nina if Jack ever talks about her and Kim, and when Nina admits he has, Teri finally realizes Nina and Jack had an affair. Nina confirms this and Teri is devastated, even though Nina assures her it was over before Teri and Jack got back together.Back at the CTU, Palmer orders Chappelle and Green to release Jack and reinstate him as head of the CTU. When they refuse, Jack asks if they can do it just for the day, and at Palmer's insistence, they finally agree, though Chappelle insists Green remain in charge of operations and can overrule Jack if they disagree on anything. As Jack walks Palmer out, he promises to follow up with Ellis, and they shake on their new alliance. At the safe house, Nina asks Kim about Rick, and Kim insists he was forced into helping Dan kidnap her. Just then, Jack calls to tell Nina they're increasing security around Teri and Kim. Then he asks to talk to Teri, but she's still so upset at finding out about his affair, she doesn't tell him she's pregnant. After Jack hangs up, Ellis calls him back to say there's still one file on Drazen that he can't find. As Ellis talks, however, he walks into a restroom where someone garrotes him and chokes him to death.
