As the assassin, Jonathon, picks up his cameras and tells Gaines he's leaving, Gaines points Jack to a keycard hidden on his car visor. Meanwhile, at the CTU, Milo decodes information about a series of plastic surgeries from the card Jack brought in earlier, and they realize the assassin has assumed a new identity. About the same time, Palmer tries to convince Keith that going public with their story - together - is the best way to handle the news about Keith's involvement in the rapist's death. Keith refuses, saying Palmer has never stood by him.Back at Gaines' compound, Kim asks Rick to help her escape, but he says he'd rather wait until Gaines lets him go, then go for help. Kim, however, says she doesn't believe Gaines will ever let Rick go. Finally, Jack arrives at the CTU, and Gaines instructs him, via earpiece, to replace the keycard Milo is working on with the new one. When Jack gets to the office, Nina tells him they identified the John Doe corpse as Alan York. As soon as he's alone, Jack demands that Gaines tell him who's really with Teri. Gaines just fires a gun and insists Jack make the keycard switch in the next three minutes. As Jack tries to figure out how to do it, Gaines calls York's cell phone and leaves a message warning that Teri's on to him. Meanwhile, Teri asks York to pull over, saying she's going to be sick. He stops, and as she runs off into the bushes, York turns on his phone and gets Gaines' message. Immediately, he goes to look for Teri, but doesn't see her. Then she smashes him in the head with a rock. The two of them struggle, but eventually Teri hits him again, knocking him out.As Teri ties York to a tree, Jack, at the CTU, starts to write a note to Nina, revealing how Gaines is controlling him. Gaines sees the note on a hidden camera and forces Jack to shred it. Back at Gaines' compound, Gaines says he has more chores for Rick, and Rick realizes Kim was right. Meanwhile, at the hotel, Palmer talks to Nicole, who does agree to stand by her father at his announcement.Back at the CTU, Jack spills hot coffee on Milo and switches the keycards during the distraction. On Mulholland Drive, Teri starts to flag down another car, but York wakes and says if he doesn't deliver her to Gaines in half an hour, Kimberly will die. Teri lets the car pass, but picks up her cell phone instead.Milo goes back to work, but has a problem with the keycard data... until Jamey suggests a technique that gets him going again. Meanwhile, in Jack's office, Gaines tells Jack to call Palmer's hotel and set up security credentials for Palmer's breakfast speech. Outside, Milo continues to have problems with the keycard data, and tells Nina that all was fine until Jack spilled coffee on him. Nina goes to Jack's office, says she knows he switched the keycards, and demands he return the original. With Gaines pressuring him, Jack pulls a gun on Nina and leads her out of the office.Back at Gaines' compound, Rick meets Kim in a shed, but before they can decide what to do, Gaines' thug, Eli, comes looking for Rick. Quickly, Kim kisses Rick, pretending he initiated it, and Eli backs out, and Rick tells Kim that he'll join Eli, so she can escape. Back on Mulholland Drive, Teri dials Jack's cell phone, but an anonymous man answers, saying he found Jack's phone in the hospital parking lot... so Teri calls Jamey, who offers to send someone from the CTU to pick Teri up.As Nina drives the silver Taurus, taking directions from Jack, who repeats Gaines' instructions... two agents pick up Teri and York. When they free York and grab Teri, she realizes they're not from the CTU. Then we see Jamey throw away the note about Teri's location, revealing her to be Gaines' agent. Meanwhile, Sherry helps Palmer dress for the breakfast, suggesting they blackmail Maureen Kingsley to keep the truth about Keith from coming out. Back at Gaines' compound, Rick sends Eli off to start their next chore, then rejoins Kim and they run for the fence. Gaines tells Jack to instruct Nina to stop at a remote industrial area... and then tells Jack to take Nina out of the car and shoot her. Nina realizes Jack is going to kill her, but he says he doesn't have a choice, since Kim and Teri have been kidnapped. Nina kneels down... and Jack fires four bullets point blank into her chest. Then, on Gaines' instruction, Jack gets back into his car and heads for Palmer's hotel.Back at Gaines' compound, Kim and Rick open a hole under the fence, but then Kim sees a car arrive and two thugs pull Teri out. Kim says she can't leave, so Rick pulls her back toward a guest house. Rick goes back outside to meet Eli, who says he wants some “sloppy seconds” and heads for the guesthouse to find Kim. Meanwhile, as Jack stops for a red light, Jonathan pulls up beside him in another car, also heading for Palmer's hotel... and then we see Nina, protected by a Kevlar vest, open her eyes, shake herself off... and start running.
