Synopsis:

HOPE SPRINGS is the charming romantic comedy starring Colin Firth (LOVE ACTUALLY), Heather Graham (ANGER MANAGEMENT), and Academy Award nominee (1997 Best Supporting Actress, GOOD WILL HUNTING) Minnie Driver (RETURN TO ME). When artist Colin Ware (Firth) discovers the love of his life and fiancee Vera (Driver), a sexy, sophisticated vixen, is marrying another man, he flees to America and the sleepy New England village of Hope to bury himself in his art and soothe his tortured psyche. Soon he finds more than a shoulder to cry on when he meets Mandy (Graham), a beautiful free spirit who captures his heart -- until Vera suddenly shows up with the surprise of Colin's life. HOPE SPRINGS is a delightful and engaging comedy about finding happiness when you least expect it.

Heather Graham's character is, how should I describe it, think retarded child but with that America?s Top Model fog of competitiveness and tension. She is supposed to have the child like innocence that Julia Roberts uses in all of her performances, walking in the grass barefoot just cause or laughing hysterically on the beach, just cause . . . but here it isn?t quite so poetic.Graham gets drunk after a couple swigs of a hard liquor bottle in the middle of the day and drives recklessly through traffic. She takes off her clothes and bounces on a strange man?s bed because its fun, ?it?s not sexual.? She takes him to yoga classes. Wow, she is just so wacky. You can tell her character was written by the type of girl who religiously watches Sex in the City, compulsively shops for shoes and controls everything in her life right down to the hair on her fat toe. It wasn?t written by someone who knows quirky and spontaneous, and it certainly wasn?t performed by anyone quirky or spontaneous. It is like making a paraplegic swim, why? It is against nature.
