Synopsis:
In a dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous characters, "Sherlock Holmes" sends Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his stalwart partner, Dr. Watson (Jude Law) on their latest challenge. The only woman ever to have bested Holmes, Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams) again sparks her tempestuous relationship with the detective, while a mysterious new nemesis - Blackwood (Mark Strong) - constructs a deadly plot that could destroy the country. women and incidents of violent fisticuffs are very consciously introduced to masculinize both watson and holmes...let's face it; in the holmes stories these gentlemen seem to be seem a bit suspiciously inseparable, even for victorian englishmen...although there are at least two references to holmes' physical power (bends a bent poker straight again in story I) and martial skills (defeats moriarty in a death struggle at the top of a falls, in what was supposed to have been the last holmes story, with a jui jitsu throw)...the producers evidently that wasn't really going to cut it...much fun, and perhaps will actually inspire kids to read the original wonderful homlesiana.
