CRITIC REVIEWS
Lew Irwin

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer doesn't get much of a rise out of critics, who give it mostly so-so reviews. For example, while Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times remarks that it's "no one's idea of must-see cinema," he goes on to say, "It's something of a relief to confront a comic-book movie that is neither hip nor wised up. Earnest, gee-whiz and foursquare, this simple and intentionally inoffensive sequel gets points for being easy to take and scrupulously avoiding obvious sources of irritation." Rob Salem in the Toronto Star comments that the latest sequel "is a vast and significant improvement" on the last -- "If not quite 'fantastic,' then the next best thing: It does not suck." Michael Phillips in the Chicago Sun-Times refers to it as "passable comic book stuff, dumb and loud. Loud. LOUD." Bob Longino in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution advises: "Silver Surfer" is watchable. But make no mistake. It's for younger filmgoers." Kyle Smith in the New York Post one of the few film critics to wear conservative credentials on his sleeve, calls it "the silliest sci-fi movie since An Inconvenient Truth" (Al Gore's documentary on global warming). And Stephen Hunter in the Washington Post suggests that the movie ought to be renamed "something like Zzzzzzzz or Yawn or what about See Paint Dry!?"

This movie has a weak story line--lots of holes in the plot--& is not as good as the 1st one--not to mention what`s up the blue contacts
