Synopsis:
As news filters in that Palmer has swept the day's primaries, Jack and DeSalvo realize Drazen's men have blown in the entrance to the detention facility, so DeSalvo suggests they make their way back to the surveillance room, which is secure. In the police station holding cell, Melanie baits Kim for a confrontation, but Kim just moves away. A bit later, Jack calls Mason at the CTU, tells him about the detention facility and Victor Drazen, and asks Mason to send a backup team. After Mason tells Nina what's going on, Teri asks Nina if she's heard from Jack or Kim, but Nina says only that Jack is busy in the field, leaving Teri desperate for more information. Teri storms into Mason's office and demands to know what's going on, and he tries to reassure her that everything will be fine. When Teri leaves, however, he calls another staff member, and orders her to "babysit" Teri, so Teri won't bother him again.At the hotel, Novick congratulates Palmer on his big win, and Palmer congratulates his staff, then goes looking for his speech writer, Patty. He finds her in another room, and as he reviews the victory speech she's writing, she tells him how much she admires him, and he's genuinely touched by the compliment. At the police station, Melanie needles Kim again, saying someone so privileged deserves to get "messed up," but Kim finally explodes, saying she's undergone more hardship in the last 24 hours than Melanie has seen in her life... and Melanie backs off.About the same time, as Jack and DeSalvo make their way to the surveillance room, Andre Drazen appears, shoots DeSalvo and greets his father. Jack grabs Victor at gunpoint, but then more of Andre's men appear, and Jack drops his gun. Then Andre's man Harris announces the arrival of the CTU squad Jack requested. Victor orders his men not to kill Jack... but then they blow up the entrance to the facility, sealing them all inside. A bit later, as Victor tells Jack of his desire for revenge, Mason calls and demands to know whether or not Jack is alive. Victor puts Jack on the phone just long enough for Mason to hear his voice, but then Mason tells Victor he doesn't negotiate with terrorists.Back in the police holding cell, another detainee, Lucy, hands Melanie a joint, then summons a guard and says Melanie is smoking pot. Melanie insists Lucy forced the joint on her, but the guard doesn't believe her until Kim speaks up and confirms Melanie's story. Lucy lunges at Kim, but before the fight can escalate, the guard hits a panic button and several other officers rush in and pull the girls apart. As they do, Melanie looks at Kim, grateful for her help, and tells one of the guards she's ready to talk. Back at the detention facility, Victor tells Jack that he killed a look-alike decoy in Kosovo, and Jack says that by letting his family accompany the decoy, Victor shares responsibility for their deaths. As Victor thinks about this, Jack tries to jump him, but then Andre hits Jack with his rifle.Back at the hotel, Patty tells Palmer she's sorry his big day has been tainted by the people who are blackmailing Keith, and when Palmer says it's really Keith who's suffering, Patty notes that Palmer takes care of everyone, but no one seems to take care of him. She starts to rub his neck, but although he clearly enjoys it, he breaks away and says he has to keep working. Back at the CTU, Mason tries to get clearance from Chappelle to help Jack, but Chappelle says he'd rather just bury the whole matter, and there would be too many questions if word got out that Victor is still alive. Chappelle orders Mason not to negotiate for Jack's release, and to "end" the situation as soon as possible.A bit later, Nina tells Teri that Kim is safe at the police station, but also that Jack has been captured by the same people who originally kidnapped Teri and Kim, and Teri begs Nina not to let Jack die. Meanwhile, CTU commandos blast their way into the collapsed detention facility and find DeSalvo's body, but Jack and the Drazens are gone, apparently escaped into an old sewer that adjoins the facility (and which has now been booby-trapped). Meanwhile, in the tunnel, Jack tells Victor and Andre that Alexis is still alive, so when they exit the tunnel and get into a big SUV, Victor tells Andre to bring Jack along.At the police station, after Melanie tells the truth about Kim's non-involvement in the drug deal, the arresting officer, Sam, tells Kim that she's being released and will be driven to meet her mother at the CTU. Back at the hotel, Novick tells Palmer to cheer up before addressing his supporters, and Palmer confesses that it's not only the problems with Keith, but his relationship with Sherry that is troubling him. Novick tells Palmer that he'll soon be in the White House, and when that happens, he can have whatever he wants to help him get through the tough spots. Patty enters and Palmer thanks her for all her help, then holds her hand just a bit longer than necessary. As Palmer heads off to greet his supporters, Kim calls her mother from the police car to say she's on her way. As she ends the call, a van slams into the police car, and three masked, armed men approach while Victor and the others watch from their SUV.
