Synopsis:
As Jack apologizes to Nina for doubting her, Jamey decrypts an address encoded on the key card. Meanwhile, as Dan and Rick force Kim into their van, Teri and York, speeding to rescue their daughters, are pulled over by a traffic cop. Palmer returns to his hotel, where Sherry tells him about the threat on his life; he shrugs it off. Back at the CTU the computers and phones go out, signaling a lockout. George Mason arrives with two other agents, but before they can secure the office Jack slips out the back door and Tony admits to Nina that he called Mason, saying Jack is “out of control.” Mason asks Nina where Jack went, but she says she doesn't know. As Dan drives away from the street where Janet was hit, Kim begs him to go back for her, but he stops the van, aims a gun at her and tells Rick to tape Kimberly's mouth shut. Nearby, York gets impatient with the traffic cop and tries to drive away, but the cop grabs him, cuffs him and places him under arrest. At Palmer's hotel, Secret Service agent Pierce urges Palmer to increase his security, but Palmer says he doesn't want to hide in his room on primary day. Back at the CTU, Mason pressures Nina, but she just threatens to tell Internal Affairs about Mason's irregular finances. Mason doesn't flinch, however, and says he knows all about Nina's affair with Jack. At the end of her shift, L.A. police officer Jessie Hampton gets a call to investigate vandalism at a warehouse on San Fernando Road. A few minutes later, Jack arrives at the same warehouse, steps inside, and finds a man named Greg Penticoff, who pulls a gun on him, then runs off. Outside, Jessie hears shots. She runs in and pulls a gun on Jack, but Jack shows her his ID and they both start searching for Penticoff. Rounding a dark corner, they hear a noise and aim their guns, but it's just a janitor. They tell him to stay put, and move on into the shadows. At the CTU, Mason continues grilling Nina, but she still says she doesn't know where Jack went. At the warehouse, Jessie figures out that Jack's mission has something to do with the newly publicized threat on Palmer's life, and tells Jack how much she admires Palmer. Meanwhile, in another hotel room, Palmer's contact, Carl, wakes up Barry Silver, demanding to know if the threats to charge Keith Palmer with murder are just a dirty campaign trick. Barry won't say, so Carl threatens to tell the admission office at Michigan State that Barry's scholarship-winning football player son is also a drug addict. Back in Dan's van, he and Rick debate whether or not to go back for Janet, but then a siren sounds nearby and Dan drives off. Meanwhile, the traffic cop receives confirmation of the 911 call Teri made before rushing to find the girls, and finally releases York, who quickly drives away.At the warehouse, backup officers summoned by Jessie arrive, but Jack asks her to hold them off, saying he needs to talk to him. A few minutes later, Jack and Jessie close in on Penticoff. Jessie backs into the shadows, but runs into the janitor again. As she lets him go, Penticoff grabs her, holding her at gunpoint. Meanwhile, Dan delivers Kimberly to Gaines, who tells her that if she behaves she'll be “back at the mall in a day or two.” Back at the warehouse, Penticoff tells Jack to drop his gun and come out of hiding. Jack says he will, but calls out to Jessie, in Spanish, to run when his gun hits the floor. Jack drops the gun and Jessie tries to grab Penticoff. A shot rings out, but Jack successfully grabs and subdues Penticoff. As he turns to congratulate Jessie, however, he realizes she's been shot in the chest.Meanwhile, Palmer gets a call from Carl, then tells Sherry what Maureen Kingsley has been saying about how Keith murdered Lyle Gibson, the man who raped Nicole. Sherry says she doesn't believe it and Palmer agrees with her. Finally, Teri and York reach the accident site, just after an ambulance has taken Janet away. They ask a bystander what happened, and learn that the girl who was hit “didn't look good” as she was being loaded into the ambulance. Back at the CTU, Mason gets a call from the police, saying they've found Jack, and Mason calls off the lockdown. At the warehouse, paramedics load Jessie into an ambulance, but after she urges Jack to protect Palmer, she dies. Jack tries to talk to Penticoff, but he refuses to talk unless he's released. Jack refuses, but then Penticoff says if Jack ever wants to see his daughter alive again, he'll cooperate. Jack is shocked, but then the cops, who have arrested Penticoff for Jessie's murder, put Penticoff into a squad car. Finally, we see Gaines make a call on his cell phone, Teri and York driving toward the hospital, and Palmer and Sherry wondering what to believe about their son. Then Jack jumps into his car and races off after the squad car carrying Penticoff.
