as my other review is...These two movies are very good, all in sub-titles, but if you like a thinking movie with action and suspense, this is it! Really takes paying close attention to appreciate these movies (You really have to watch closly and catch all the story) if you do, the twist and turns in the story are top notch. Great movie! Great director and acting. I emphises the detail of watching because if you don't you will be very lost :) But for the hardcore movie buff, this one is as good as reading a great book :)

While this film incorporates many of the stylistic elements of other, better known films, it is not simply a derivative work. The dark mood, the thematically consistent editing, the tying together of the storyline, all are exceptionally well-done. This is a horror story told with enigmatic characters, but nothing is over-the-top or out-of-place. As for the ending, it sets up the sequel which, I believe, is already out in Eastern Europe (and is called "Day Watch").A terrific rental value at only a dollar.Highly recommended.

Horrible movie. Subtitled ( nothing i have against) but if you mix that with no plot, no build up of characters, no explanation of the forces of the, what seems to be vampires, and what the hell is the Vortex?!?! My room mate took away my movie choosing privlages because of this school project of a movie

2 stars. It's closer to Ghostbusters w/o the humor than it is to Matrix.Special effects weren't too special except for Olga. The movie isn't bad, somewhat enjoyable and like I read on someone elses review--"walk, don't run to see this."

Throw away your mp5s and ditch your light saber. Why bother with all those things when you can use a flashlight :). I will not insult the film-makers by saying, "I understood it fully!". However, I do have the courage to say that watching the same concepts and themes in movies leaves one extremely parched for originality. And this movie is nothing, if not original. That been said, I think that one, who is too used to watching movies that involve japanese swords or austrian guns will most probably not appreciate this movie. I understand that it is the first part of a trilogy. If so, I shall wait impatiently for the continuation. Also guys, check out the turn-based-strategy game of this movie if you miss that genre.

I can't say this film satisfied me, but I'm a tough customer.I feel like most of the filmmaker's budget was spent on special effects, but there were several other good points.I feel like there might be some depths to this movie that Americans are unaware of, particularly the character of Olga the Owl-lady.She seems peripheral, but too much time was dedicated to developing her for her character to be entirely superfluous.Perhaps it's part of a Russian legend. The plot is sound but doesn't satisfy all your curiousities by the time the film ends. The ending is dark, but poignant. If you want sci-fi action, watch "Underworld."If you want a commentary on the postmodern conception of right and wrong wrapped up in a vampire story, watch Nochnoi Dozor.

Very poor movie. No discernable plot. Characters are inconsistent and have not substance... they appear, disapear without any apparent reason or contribution to the story... not any background. Very much a waste of time. This also seems to be a very depressing movie... Also... I find the one viewers comments rather interesting... the viewer is very critical of a previous reviewer for being curious about something another viewer said... I always find it interesting how those with a self declared "non judgmental" attitude are most often the most harsh with their judgements.

Edgy... even the subtitles have feeling. The whole movie echoes with things that will make you wake up in the middle of the night and be afraid to get out of bed.Great cast (no known names), beautifully crafted story, excellent character development, overall a very good movie.

why would someone wonder about someone else's taste and review, that is so anal, you don't like it they do, what makes someone think their opinion is more valid.. go figure.

This was an amazing movie... Amazingly bad that is. If a plot is there... it is very inconsistent. The acting is poor. It is a very dark and depressing movie as well. Another thing that is amazing about this movie is that I actually paid money to waste my time watching it. The characters for the most part never develop... It is just really bad. And I don't understand at all the other viewers that thought it had good special effects... they were terrible????

Amazing special effects! If you like "The Matrix" and "Underworld", then this is your movie! It's subtitled, but even that is groundbreaking!
