Synopsis:
Set in Uganda in the 1970's, The Last King of Scotland is a compelling mix of fact and fiction that depicts Idi Amin (Whittaker) as one of the most powerful dictators of our time. Amin's savagery is illustrated in part through a naive Scottish doctor (McAvoy) who finds himself entangled with Amin in a desperate fight for survival.

Great movie and great acting by both Whitaker and McAvoy! This is a "heavy" and fairly disturbing film, but it's incredibly well done.

whittaker's mercurial, roman take on the infamous amin.i do not dote on hollywood's aesthetic preferences, but i thought best actor was a reasonable acknowledgement of this performance.

Make sure all the things you do or might do are done then start this movie. Forest Whitaker, who, since I first saw him in The Crying Game, soars above that performance. As Idi Amin he is both delectable and detestable. Amin did have this double edged sword character and Forest Whitaker is totally believeable in the role. I have often wondered why, after seeing The Crying Game, Forest Whitaker didn't start appearing in more starring and less supportive roles. I voted him the Oscar and Forest Whitaker did take the prise that night. A good look into 3rd world politics and how vulnerable the people are.
