CRITIC REVIEWS
LEW IRWIN
RATED 4 STARS

The horror flick Quarantine was not screened for critics, but when they went to the box office, paid to see the movie, and wrote their reviews, they did not seem at all ready to write their usual denunciations of the genre. Rafer Guzm?n in Newsday said that for him the film turned out "to be a rollicking good time." Likewise, Jeannette Catsoulis commented in the New York Times that the film "delivers the heebie-jeebies with solid acting and perfectly calibrated shocks." And Roger Moore concluded in the Orlando Sentinel that "Quarantine is a movie testament to craftsmanship and commitment." But Michael Hardy in the Boston Globe was put off by the jumpy hand-held camera work, which he said, made him feel physically ill. "Even now, an hour after leaving the theater, I can still taste bile in the back of my throat."

Why such a high rating? Simply put, I have finally had the pleassure of watching a movie worthy of the Horror genre tag. I loved how this movie slowly eased us into a calm before the storm, then in an instant twisted the intensity level to 10, never letting up. Kudos to the brains who were creative enough to avoid the typical gore fest, chalked full of "are you f'n stupid?," "yea right!" situations, causing us to scream at dumb assed characters who constantly prance cluelessly into death's wanting arms, for no apherent reason. No fluff here. These poor souls where unlucky enough to be caught in a truely horrific scenerio. When the balloon went up, it became all about close quarters survival, with no way out. I loved the ending. To tell you why would be a total spoiler.
