Synopsis:
As Nina removes her Kevlar vest, Palmer's rally begins at a power plant, and Palmer tells Sherry and Keith that he plans to come clean about Keith's involvement in the rapist's death. At the same time, the assassin, Jonathan, signs in as photographer “Marty Belkin,” and is greeted by Palmer's aide, Jessica Abrams. Meanwhile, Gaines tells Jack to pull over at a bus stop, where a man puts a case onto the seat next to Jack. Jack refuses to go further unless he hears from Teri or Kim, so Gaines puts Teri on just long enough for Jack to hear her voice, then orders Jack to drive to the power station.Back at the CTU, Milo asks Jamey when Nina's coming back, miffed that he was called in at 5:30 a.m. and now has nothing to do. Jamey shrugs him off, however, and goes into a restroom, where she gets a message from Gaines on her Palm Pilot, saying Nina's dead. Meanwhile, Gaines throws Teri into the locked guest house where Kim is being held, and they embrace. As Teri breaks the news to Kim that Janet is dead, Nina calls Jamey from a pay phone. When Jamey doesn't answer, however, she calls Tony instead. Nina asks Tony to bring Jamey to the phone, but when Tony goes to get Jamey, he hears her tell Milo that she just talked to Nina. Tony insists Nina tell him what's going on, and when he tells her what he overheard Jamey saying, they both realize that Jamey's the inside spy.Back at the power plant, Palmer arrives, and Jack checks in with his CTU ID, carrying the case Gaines provided, which contains a laptop computer. As Jack comes into the main room, he looks around and is greeted by Jessica, who recognizes Jack from high school, but Jack shakes her off. Then Palmer and Sherry enter and Jessica introduces Palmer to “Martin Belkin” as he snaps their picture. Back at the guesthouse, Rick brings breakfast to Teri and Kim, but Teri realizes he's one of the kidnappers and hits him. Then, before Rick can defend himself, Eli warns him not to make friends with the prisoners, since they'll be dead soon. Back at the power plant, Jack tries to slip Jessica a warning message, but Jared, another Gaines thug, bumps Jack away. Then Gaines orders Jack, through his earpiece, into a nearby utility closet.After Tony sends a car to pick Nina up, she greets him at the CTU and explains Jack is being used by someone who has kidnapped his wife and daughter. Nina suggests they find out more before telling anyone, but Tony insists they report the danger to the Secret Service right away. Meanwhile, Jonathan meets Jack in the utility closet, and orders him to assemble a weapon hidden in the computer case. When it's done, Jonathan takes it and starts to leave. Jack pulls his own gun on Jonathan, but he just brushes it aside, and walks out.At the CTU, Tony tells Milo that the real key card has been found, and Jamey starts to fidget. Tony also talks to Secret Service agent Pierce, who agrees to remove Jack from Palmer's rally. Meanwhile, Nina watches Jamey on the security monitors, and when Jamey heads for the restroom to contact Gaines again, Tony waits for the room's security camera to switch to a different view, then pulls Jamey out at gunpoint. Back at the power plant, Pierce advises Palmer to leave, but Palmer insists on giving an abbreviated version of his speech... so Pierce tells his staff to grab Jack if they see him. Back at the CTU, Nina and Tony warn Jamey that she'll be charged with murder and treason, but she refuses to talk without Agency counsel. Back at Gaines' compound Teri tells Kim how much she loves her, and Kim senses something very bad may be about to happen. Meanwhile, at the power plant, Palmer steps up to the podium, and Gaines orders Jack back into the main room. As Palmer speaks, Gaines tells Jack to stand by a partition where Jonathan will hand him the gun after shooting Palmer. But as Jonathon aims at Palmer, a Secret Service agent, Hayes, sees Jack approaching. To speed the intervention, Jack reaches for Hayes' gun, and is immediately mobbed by Pierce and more agents. When Gaines doesn't hear the expected shot from Jonathan's gun, he asks Jack if he did something. Jack says no, but then the transmitter gets yanked from his ear and crushed.Meanwhile, Jonathan conceals his weapon, starts taking pictures again, and gets pushed away by the crush of agents now swarming the room. Meanwhile, Nina and Tony, also watching on security monitors, order Jamey to call her boss. Gaines orders Eli to kill Teri and Kim, but then he gets the call from Jamey, who says (under pressure from Nina and Tony) that the Secret Service grabbed Jack simply because he's been ignoring protocol since Gaines has been controlling him, which seems plausible. A few moments later, Gaines orders Eli to spare Teri and Kim, and calls his own boss to say he does have a contingency plan. Meanwhile, at the power plant, a bunch of agents hustle Palmer into an elevator, while another agent punches Jack in the gut.
