24 - Season 01 - Episode 23 - 10:00 P.M. - 11:00 P.M.

As Jack drives toward Century City, Victor calls and tells him to go to Palmer's hotel and convince Palmer to unfreeze $200,000,000 of Victor's assets (which were frozen after his supposed assassination). Jack guesses that Victor will also ask him to kill Palmer, and Victor confirms this. Finally, Jack asks to speak to Kim, and Victor puts her on long enough to verify that she's OK. Next, Jack calls Mason, but after making sure Teri's OK, refuses to tell him what Victor's up to. After that call, Jack calls Palmer's suite, and asks a secret service agent to have Palmer call him back. Meanwhile, Palmer finds Patty and brings up their earlier flirting. She apologizes but admits an attraction to him, and he asks her to meet him in 20 minutes.A few minutes later, Victor, Andre, Ivan, and Kim arrive at a waterfront warehouse in Long Beach. There, they find a doctor tending to Alexis, but he's bleeding uncontrollably, and after briefly recognizing his father, finally dies. Andre is furious and attacks Kim in revenge, but Victor pulls him away. Back at the hotel, Patty reports her scheduled rendezvous with Palmer to Sherry and asks why Sherry is pushing them together. Sherry says she needs to have David's confidence, and knows he doesn't trust her enough any more to confide in her. At the CTU, Tony discovers someone has tampered with the agency's plans of the detention facility where Jack found Victor, and Nina asks him to find out who has had access to the files, suspecting another "dirty" agent. After Tony leaves, Mason asks Nina to "handle" Teri, so Nina returns to the conference room and tells Teri that Jack is no longer a hostage, but that he's also still performing some sort of task for Victor. Teri asks about Kim, and Nina finally admits that Kim has been taken, but says Jack is trying to get her back.Finally, Palmer returns Jack's call, and Jack tells him that he's on his way to deliver a cell phone, on which Victor will call Palmer at 10:45. Palmer speculates that Victor will try to use Jack in another assassination attempt, but Jack assures Palmer that he won't hurt him. Back at the warehouse, Kim sees Andre demonstrating a detonator to Victor, and realizes that the phone Jack is delivering to Palmer has a bomb in it. A few minutes later, Patty meets Palmer. Instead of greeting her with a kiss, as she expects, he asks her to sit down, and then fires her. Patty's shocked, but Palmer says he knows her flirting was Sherry's idea and orders her to leave.Back at the CTU, Tony tells Nina that Mason is one of five people who had access to the detention facility plans. Afraid that he's the "mole," Tony starts shutting down Mason's network access, while Nina calls Ryan Chappelle to warn him. Back at the hotel, Palmer confronts Sherry, but she insists that if she didn't keep looking out for him, his whole candidacy would fall apart. Before Palmer can argue, however, Jack arrives. As Jack sets the cell phone on a table and begs Palmer to cooperate with Victor; the phone rings. Palmer tells Jack he really doesn't have the power to get Victor's money back, but Jack begs him to answer the phone anyway. As Palmer finally does, Victor hits the detonator. Just then, Jack realizes Victor must know Palmer can't get the money, and that this must be another murder attempt. Jack grabs the phone and throws it out onto the balcony, where it explodes.A few moments later, Sherry embraces Palmer, genuinely thankful that he's OK. A secret service agent, Ron, gets a call to confirm that Palmer is alive, but as he's about to reply, Jack grabs his radio away, and tells Palmer that it would be better for Kim if Victor, and everyone else, thinks Palmer is dead. Ron radios that he doesn't know Palmer's status yet, and Jack says he wants to leak a story to the press that Palmer is dead. Sherry's outraged, but Palmer finally agrees to do it. At the CTU, Tony helps Nina analyze some satellite data, and tells her that Mason is planning to release them at midnight to get some sleep. He asks if she'd like to keep him company, but she says she can't think about it until she knows Jack and Kim are safe. Just then, the news story about Palmer's death appears on TV.At the warehouse, Andre and Victor see the same story. Victor calls Jack and gives him directions to the warehouse, saying he'll release Kim when Jack arrives, but Jack will still have to die. Jack says he'll be there in 30 minutes, and when Victor hangs up, Kim asks why he's doing this to her family, and Victor says it's because Jack killed his family, which shocks Kim. Jack calls the CTU and asks to talk to Teri. Teri asks Jack about Kim, and he promises that she'll be back soon. Teri asks Jack if he's coming too, and after a brief pause, he says he is. Finally, Teri admits to Jack that she's pregnant, and when he realizes he may never get to see his new child, he starts to cry. He tells Teri that he loves her, then drives off.Back at the warehouse, Kim knocks a cup of hot coffee into her guard's face and flees. Outside on a catwalk, several more guards block her path, so she jumps into the water below. Victor and Andre order the guards to search for her, but Victor says it's unlikely she'll survive. Back at the CTU, Mason tells the staff that Palmer isn't really dead. Wondering how Mason learned that, Nina goes back to the conference room and asks Teri if she talked to anyone since Jack called. Teri says she hasn't, then reveals her pregnancy to Nina. Back at the port, Kim climbs out of the water at a safe distance down the beach, while Victor gets a call from a woman who tells him, in Serbian, that Palmer isn't really dead. Then we see the caller, and realize it's Nina.
