I purchased Day Watch only because I found Night Watch to be one of the most original movies I had seen in a long time, and I wanted more. That???s probably exactly what happened here ??? everyone wanted more, More, MORE! So, they threw Day Watch together. But it feels contrived and derivative, created only because their audience wanted it and because they knew there was going to be a lot of money in it.Had I stumbled into Day Watch first, I might have loved it, and rated it higher. But, as a follow-up to the wonderfully and darkly original Night Watch, which sets the bar pretty high, it fails.I think they went a bit over the top in their pursuit of more, More, MORE!The humor, for example, actually works in the short term but somehow lessens the overall impact of the film in the viewer's final reckoning. I would have preferred a smarter, more consistently dark, better executed follow-up. Now, is it a good movie? Heavens, YES!I just had high hopes, perhaps unfairly high hopes, and felt a bit let down in the end. As others have indicated in their writings here, you really need to see both films. I think you'll enjoy them both a great deal, but will eventually consider Day Watch to be the weaker of the two offerings.
