Determining What Cables You Need

There are two kinds of connections found on a Laptop. S-video is the preferred connection for the best quality video. Otherwise, you will need to use a VGA connection.

2a. S-Video and Super S-Video
Check your laptop for an S-Video output

If you have an S-video jack then you will need an S-video cable which you can get at your local electronics store or you can BUY IT NOW.

You will also need a cable for audio. This cable will connect from the headphone jack in your laptop to the 2 RCA stereo jacks (red and white) on your TV or stereo system. If you need this cable, you can BUY IT HERE.

The easiest way to connect your PC to your TV is via the all in one "Super Cable" which connects the audio and video on your laptop to the 3 RCA jacks (audio and the yellow video input) on your TV. This is a great cable that plugs in as easily as a video game console, and this hard to find cable is AVAILABLE HERE.

Note: For the best sound quality, be sure your computer volume is turned up all of the way.

The cables can be hooked up to your TV as shown in this diagram.

1. Red / Audio Right
2. White / Audio Left
3. Yellow / Video IN
4. Black Connector S-Video IN

Once you receive your cables and have hooked them to your laptop and television, you will need to make some adjustments to your laptops settings in order to playback the video properly. Click below for instructions on how to make the proper adjustments. Note that if you do not already have your cables you may want to PRINT THE CHANGE SETTINGS SECTION for when they arrive.

2b. VGA Connection
Look for the VGA output on the sides of your laptop.

If your laptop does not have an s-video jack, then you may want to look into getting a new video card. In addition, you can purchase a VGA Scan converter which allows you to transmit your video from your laptop to your TV.

Here is a link to buy one now. Note that this product comes with all the necessary cables you will need including a VGA cable, RCA video cables and the headphone jack to RCA cable you will need for audio.

Note that you do not need the link to the next step as you do not need to change settings for VGA connections and the instructions come with the product.

Once you receive your converter, please consult the manual for instructions on how to connect your laptop to your TV.
