WATCH ON YOUR TV
> Watch on your laptop
After your cables are properly connected, you will need to change some settings so that your video displays on your TV, not your laptop. Some newer laptops have a shortcut feature to quickly switch between PC & TV (see below). If the below does not work please go to our
COMPLETE CHANGE SETTINGS INSTRUCTIONS
page for complete details on changing your video card settings.
For some laptops you can create a shortcut feature that allows you to switch the video output from your monitor to your TV in seconds. Here is how:
Make sure that your cables are properly plugged in to your laptop and TV and that your laptop is plugged in or fully charged.
Hold down the "Fn" key and then hit another function button depending on your computer manufacturer (see chart below)
While you are holding the "Fn" key down, keep hitting the other F# button and you will toggle through the various outputs until you get to the "TV Only" option (make sure this is selected).
Note that the commands vary by manufacturer and model, so if one key does not work or if your brand is not listed bellow, try another key or consult your manual. You can also go to our
Complete Change Settings instructions
.
For additional help, we have created this demo walk-through for the IBM ThinkPad. Please note that the process may vary for different manufacturers and models, but the concept is the same:
Output video to your Television
Turn off the output on the laptop so it's not distracting from the video
Make any adjustments for resolution, turn off screen savers, etc.
Demo1- The IBM ThinkPad
1. Press Fn+F7 (or other number)
2. Since your television is not a display option, you will need to create a profile for it using the setup wizard by clicking "Manage Schemes" in the bottom right corner.
3. Click the "New" button.
4. Click "Next" on the introductory screen
5. CinemaNow recommends you do not have the video display on your laptop while it is also playing on the TV. To prevent this, uncheck the laptop box.
6. You will also want to select "Television" under the external device options.
7. Select Dual Display (at the bottom), then click "Next".
8. Select the resolution. For most TV's, we recommend 640x480.
9. Check the first two boxes to make sure that the laptop doesn't go into power-save mode or the screen saver doesn't interrupt your video. Click "Next".
10. You may want to select "Change desktop background" and click on "None" to create a neutral background screen image for your TV. Click "Next".
11. Enter a "Scheme Name" so you know what display you have set these preferences for. This can be the name of the TV you are using or something as simple as "Living Room TV". Click "OK" when you have entered the name and verified your settings.
12. You will now see that your television display is an option on the main "Fn" screen. Select the television display anytime you want to output on the TV. You can always go back and edit your preferences.
