We chatted with Josh to learn more about the Last Comic Standing winner's inspirations, soccer and getting into trouble in Senegal.
What made you decide to do Last Comic Standing? My manager, Mike Raftery encouraged me to audition. He felt the exposure would be good for my comedy and my career. I think he may have been right.
Which round of the competition was the most challenging? Believe it or not, the hardest moments of the competition were during the initial audition. I was playing to an audience of two people! Who can tell how well you're doing in that situation?
Who was your favorite comedian on the show? Myself! The truth is I liked everyone a lot. Well, except maybe Stella. Aside from her, we all had loads of fun together.
Has success changed you? No.
When did you know you wanted to be a comic? I was a senior in college. I had performed informally in front of people and I thought I might be able to make a career out of it.
What was the craziest thing you ever did when you were a kid? When I was in Senegal and I was 15, I used to make paper airplanes and light them on fire and throw them.
That sounds dangerous, did you get in trouble? It wasn't having the effect I'd hoped for. I caught a huge bush on fire, and the flames went up 15 feet! Fortunately it didn't go any further.
What is your favorite thing about performing? The rush I get when I hear the laughter.
What's your least favorite? Travel.
What is your process for coming up with new material? Living!
Which comics have inspired you? Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, and Mitch Hedberg.
Alive or dead, who would you most like to meet? Bob Dylan.
If you could have any job in the world other than being a comedian, what would it be? I would like to be like the ?Crocodile Hunter? Steve Irwin. Run a zoo and have a show about animals.
Have you ever worked with animals before? I actually interned in a zoo in South Africa, and it was one of my best times ever.
Are you still playing soccer? Yes. In fact I strained a muscle playing with a girl's team in September. I won't say which muscle.
If you had to pick….soccer or crotch ball? Crotch ball.
I thought you might say that. Any reason in particular why? Much easier. Less training.
Who has better hair, you or Alexi Lalas? Me, of course. I spend hours getting it to look this good…
In 7 MORE DAYS IN THE TANK you say you like to swear, so what's your favorite curse word? That would be f***. You may be interested to note that I use it as an expletive and adjective, but almost never as a verb.
What's next for you? Television. Hopefully more TV work.
